Providing Convenient, Patient-Centered Behavioral Health Care Across Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, and DC
Compass Virtual builds on over a decade of excellence in delivering in-person Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs. Compass’s care model is adapted for a virtual setting to maintain the highest levels of quality, effectiveness, and satisfaction while making care accessible to more people.
As in Compass Health Center’s highly regarded in-person programs, virtual participants receive group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. If needed, a dedicated resource and aftercare therapist works with those who could benefit from help planning their post-discharge life. Educational specialists work with adolescent participants throughout the school year.

Frequently Asked Questions
At the program start time, participants sign into a group virtual session from a private, comfortable location. The session begins with a check-in, followed by various process, skill, mindfulness, or specialty groups throughout the day. The program curriculum is based in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), all evidence-based approaches that are carefully tailored to the ages and clinical needs of the group cohort.
Throughout the week, individuals will be moved to private virtual rooms to participate in separate meetings with their primary therapist, family therapist, psychiatrist (or psychiatric nurse practitioner), and/or an education specialist if applicable.
Group therapy sessions form the core of the program, and each session is led by at least two Compass group leaders who are experienced, masters-level therapists. Typically, there are 8 to 14 participants in each group. In addition to group sessions, each patient conducts separate 1:1 sessions with their assigned psychiatrist, individual therapist, family therapists, and other care team members.
Patients connect to Compass Virtual through a tablet or laptop/desktop. Due to the length of sessions and the requirement to engage with other group members, participation by mobile phone is not recommended. A high-speed internet connection and private space to participate are required.
The program is designed to be highly interactive and makes strategic use of breaks, exercises, and experiential therapies.
Yes, Compass Virtual is currently accepting new intakes for Compass’s adolescent mood/anxiety (ages 13-18), young adult and adult mood/anxiety (ages 18+), and OCD (ages 18+) programs. When an individual or family member calls, they will be connected to an experienced intake specialist who will perform a telephone screening. Following this screening, if clinically indicated, a no-cost virtual assessment will be scheduled as soon as possible. The assessment, also conducted virtually, is with an experienced Intake Therapist who will further evaluate symptoms and discuss treatment recommendations.
