1 Credit CE Webinar | Presence without Proximity: Ethical Practice in Virtual Mental Health Care

Designed for mental health professionals including psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and nurses, this presentation will explore ethical issues pertaining to providing virtual mental health care. Case vignettes will be frequently used throughout the presentation to show examples of ethical dilemmas in real life practice, and to aid in providing strategies to help address these concerns.

Specific issues that will be discussed include Privacy, Confidentiality, and Data Security, Informed Consent, Emergency Management and Safety, Therapeutic Relationship and Communication Limitations, Licensure and Jurisdictional Complexity, Equity and Access Considerations, and Appropriateness for Specific Populations.

*This training provides one credit (hour) toward the Ethics CE requirement.

1 Credit CE Webinar | Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention: Current Best Practices

Worldwide, nearly 1 million people a year die by suicide, equal to one life lost every 40 seconds. Many times, there are warning signs prior to someone making an attempt. Research has shown that suicide risk assessment, paired with follow-up interventions, can reduce suicide risk and attempts.

Designed for mental health professionals including psychologists, social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, and nurses, participants will discuss the risk factors of suicide. Using vignettes, we will explore when and how to use the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale in your daily practice to assess suicide risk. We will also learn how to develop a concrete safety plan and assess the need for a higher level of care.

Advancing Mental Health in Maryland: A Community Conversation

On October 30, 2024, Compass Health Center brought together top mental health advocates and experts for an impactful community conversation. Featured panelists included Maryland State Senator Will Smith (D-20), Salma Sparklin, MPH, CareFirst, Meryl Heyliger, PhD, NCSP, Georgetown Day School, Captain Jordan Satinsky, Montgomery County Police Department, and Compass Health Center’s Marissa Leslie, MD, and Chad Wetterneck, PhD.

Refusal and Absenteeism on Youth

National Public Radio recently reported that almost one-third of K-12 students in the United States, totaling more than 14 million youth, are not attending school regularly.

On Thursday, April 4th, 2024, Compass hosted a community conversation with expert panelists about reducing school absenteeism due to mental health challenges.

Creating Space Skillfully: Continued Coping in the Aftermath of Tragedy

On Wednesday and Thursday, July 20th and 21st, Compass clinicians hosted community webinars for a deeper dive into the skills discussed in our recent post-crisis support webinars. This presentation was designed for individuals ages 16 and up, and explores how to practice the coping skills needed to navigate strong emotions that can follow a crisis.
