More about Our Model and Programs

Our treatment team is made up of experienced professionals dedicated to providing the highest standard of care across our specialties. Get to know the specialists who will be closely involved in your child's treatment and well-being.

Your child will be assigned a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner who will complete a psychiatric evaluation within 72 hours of admission. They will regularly meet with your child, guide their treatment plan, manage medications, and coordinate with outpatient providers to ensure a smooth transition upon discharge.

Master's or doctoral-level clinicians will lead group therapy sessions based on evidence-based therapies. These sessions help your child learn new skills while connecting with peers who share similar experiences, enhancing their clinical outcomes.

Your child’s primary therapist will be the main contact for your family, coordinating treatment and working closely with your child. They will ensure your child progresses toward their goals and collaborate with external providers for a seamless transition upon discharge.

A family therapist will work with your family to integrate you into your child’s treatment journey. They will facilitate sessions that connect your child’s progress at Compass with their life outside the program, ensuring maximum impact on daily life. Family therapy is crucial for support and guidance, especially in our programs for young children, children, and adolescents.

During the school year, education services are provided daily in our PHP programs to support your child's academic progress while receiving treatment. With your permission, the education specialist coordinates homework, attends return-to-school meetings, and assists with the transition back to school.

I hope this doesn’t sound weird, but I’ve come to love all of you in a certain way, it’s not quite family, but it’s similar. So of course it’s sad to part ways after all this time, but I know it’s for the best, and I know I’ll be okay. Thank you all, for helping me through these times. You are all wonderful and amazing at what you do. Thank you, thank you so much!

Here I am, in a shake shack in tears! Thank you. Each and every one. I have learned so much and I think the most powerful takeaway was the power I already have. Thank you for creating such a gentle and validating space for us. I’ve learned a lot of listening skills, too. This was an incredible experience, and I am very thankful to have the exposure to it at a time in my life where I could fully take advantage. I will miss the group sessions. An awful lot more than I ever would have expected to.

Partnering to Support
Your Family

Compass Health Center is here to support your family. We offer multiple and comprehensive resources and opportunities for support, learning, collaborating, therapy, and growth. See below for more detailed information about several of our offerings for parents, caregivers, and families.

New Family Orientation Group

Begin your experience at Compass with our New Family Orientation Group. This introductory session will equip you with essential knowledge about our approach to care, setting the stage for what to expect. You will receive information about this via email from your Child's treatment team at the start of their treatment.

Parent/Caregiver Groups

Several parent groups are offered weekly virtually via Teams; a link will be sent to you on Mondays, along with the skills planned for that week and any other pertinent information
to prepare.

Parent Skills Group

Once a week, depending on location, we invite parents to attend an onsite parent skill group. These sessions are crafted to help you tackle the unique challenges and rewards of raising a child in therapy. It’s an ideal setting for learning and connecting with peers who share similar experiences

Family Therapy

Family therapy is integral to our treatment approach. We see the most gains for children and adolescents in program when we partner consistently with parents or guardians, which is the reason why we require it as part of treatment. Family therapy can be via Teams or in person, and your child’s family therapist will work with you during the first few days of program to find a time that works scheduling-wise. Getting started in care, we do recommend starting with just parent(s)/caregiver(s) and child.

*Programs offered depend on location. Please reference your site's specific information tab above to see what programs are running at your Compass Health Center location.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know you may have a lot of questions when your child begins treatment. We're sharing commonly asked questions from our parent community, and their answers, below.

PHP and IOP are the terms used by insurance companies to describe these levels of care. PHP stands for Partial Hospitalization Program and IOP stands for Intensive Outpatient Program. PHP offers a level of support that includes daily group therapy, family therapy, individual therapy, access to a psychiatric prescriber, and experiential therapies. It is designed to help kids and teens who are struggling to engage in their daily activities and temporarily need more support than outpatient therapy or psychiatry alone. You may also hear PHP described as a day program at Compass, as it takes place Monday through Friday, during the day. IOP is a level of care between PHP and seeing an outpatient therapist once or twice a week. It’s designed to help our patients maintain the gains they’ve made it PHP when a child or teen has returned to school or their day-to-day summer routines.

Our ability to communicate with the school enables your child to experience minimal disruption to their education while receiving the full benefit of care with Compass. This communication is possible through something called a full Release of Information (ROI). Most importantly, the ROI allows us to work with your child’s school to facilitate the completion of schoolwork while at Compass and to plan for a successful return to school. Also, a full ROI allows us to medically excuse your child from school, alleviating parents or caregivers from calling in their child each day from school.

We understand the importance of participating in supportive and fulfilling extracurriculars; however, skipping the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) isn’t recommended. While it’s natural to want to minimize the disruption to your child’s routine, completing the full recommended course of program supports a reduced need to engage in intensive treatment in the future. Our treatment recommendations are based on your child’s individual needs, and clinical data we’ve analyzed from thousands of patients. IOP, or the half-day program that children and teens complete after they finish the full-day program, is necessary for a complete and effective treatment course.
