Compass Health Center Opens in Golden Valley, Expanding Immediate Access to Psychiatrist-Led Mental Health Care Across Minnesota

Golden Valley, MN – February 16, 2026 — Minnesota is facing a mental health access crisis: more than one in three adults report symptoms of anxiety or depression, yet nearly one in six are unable to get the counseling or therapy they need (NAMI Minnesota, 2021). For youth, the gap is even more urgent, with over 100,000 adolescents experiencing a major depressive episode each year, and nearly 60% never receive treatment (NAMI, 2025).

To meet this growing need, Compass Health Center, a nationally recognized leader in psychiatrist-led care, has opened a new treatment center in Golden Valley, bringing immediate, specialized mental health care to individuals and families across the Twin Cities region.

The state-of-the-art facility will provide Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs for adolescents, young adults, and adults. These programs offer the intensity of hospital-level treatment in a warm, community-based setting. Doors opened today, February 16, 2026, and assessments for both in-person and virtual care are underway.

“Access to immediate, evidence-based treatment can change the trajectory of someone’s life,” said Claudia Welke, MD, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Compass Health Center. “Minnesota families will now be able to access effective, compassionate PHP and IOP programs, without waiting weeks or months. That’s the care we’re bringing to Golden Valley.”

A Proven Model That Delivers Results

Founded in 2011 in Chicagoland, Compass Health Center has helped more than 25,000 patients nationwide through its evidence-based, psychiatrist-led model. Patients in Compass programs experience, on average, a 55% reduction in depression and anxiety symptoms, and 95% step down to a lower level of care after completing treatment.

Compass’s multidisciplinary teams integrate psychiatry, individual and group therapy, family support, and medication management within one coordinated system of care. Patients are assessed within 24 hours and can begin treatment as soon as the same or the next day.

“We started Compass to fill the gap between weekly outpatient sessions and hospitalization,” said David Schreiber, MD, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “By expanding to Minnesota, we’re ensuring that people can access the care they need, when and where they need it, and before a crisis escalates.”

Local Leadership, Lasting Impact

Compass Health Center’s Golden Valley programs will treat a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and school-related anxiety and refusal. The location will be led by an experienced team of clinical providers, including Compass Health Center’s Golden Valley location will be led by Dr. Amy Nygaard, Psychiatrist and Medical Director, Minnesota; Dianne Burd, LICSW, MSW, Executive Director; Deanna Kolas, LPCC, Director, Clinical Services; and Sarah Roth, MSW, LICSW, Associate Director, Adult Program.

“As someone who lives and works in this community, I’ve seen firsthand how hard it is to find care that’s both specialized and available,” said Burd. “Compass’s approach helps people stabilize faster and make meaningful, lasting progress.”

In-Person and Virtual Care, Statewide

In addition to the Golden Valley location, Compass offers virtual PHP and IOP programs statewide, providing the same psychiatrist-led care and clinical outcomes with the convenience of home-based treatment.
