Compass's Partial Hospitalization (PHP) Programs provide support for individuals who require more intense treatment than available in an outpatient setting. Patients attend their programs Monday through Friday. PHP is recommended for those having difficulty managing daily life stressors, being present in routine aspects of their life, and who are unable to attend work or school.

Compass's Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs provide short-term stabilization for patients who are stepping down from PHP or who are having difficulty managing their symptoms in traditional outpatient treatment. Compass's goal is to keep the patient involved in as much of their daily routine as possible while providing an intensive level of treatment. IOP is suitable for those having difficulty managing life stressors but are still able to attend to their work, school, or structure during the day. Program is offered Monday through Friday during daytime or evening IOP hours. Participants will determine a schedule with their treatment team.

PHP patients attend their program daily during the week. IOP is offered during the week as well; patients are recommended to attend three to five days of week. You’ll consult with your care team on what frequency of attendance is right for you.

At the program start time, the group therapy session begins with a check-in, followed by various skill, process, mindfulness, or specialty groups throughout the day. Group sessions are during structured times depending on your age. There are breaks between groups such as a lunch for patients in PHP. Throughout the week, you will step out of group sessions to meet with members of your treatment team including your primary therapist and psychiatrist/psychiatric nurse practitioner as well as your family therapist and educational specialist if applicable.

The average length of stay in our programs is approximately two to four weeks in PHP and four to eight weeks in IOP. This will vary among patients based on individualized treatment plans. For those who begin treatment in one of Compass's PHPs, a step-down to IOP is often recommended. Compass's IOP offerings typically include both daytime and evening times.

Our areas of focus are Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Trauma, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Emotional & Behavioral Dysregulation in children, Chronic Pain & Illness, school avoidance and refusal, and co-occurring Substance Use Disorder.

Compass's core treatment modalities are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, and when appropriate, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

During the intake process, an expert intake therapist will assess whether an individual is a good fit for one of Compass's Partial Hospitalization (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Programs. If the clinician determines that Compass is not able to effectively treat a patient’s needs, they will provide referrals to other providers or programs.
